Let’s say, instead of saying “important”, I say “crucial” or “essential”.
Wouldn’t you automatically feel, “Oh, Rushika speaks really good English”?
So why not do the same in German?
Many students go from A1 to B2, but their natural expressions are still stuck at basic words like „gut“ or „wichtig“. And don’t get me wrong-that’s completely fine. Even in everyday conversations, I personally keep my language simple.
But from an exam perspective, it’s important to use more refined and expressive language to impress the examiner and score well. Once you’re back to your daily conversations, you can absolutely switch back to simple words. Kein Problem!
Here is what I want you to replace:
- gut =sehr gut / hervorragend / ausgezeichnet
- sehr gut =äußerst gut / ausgezeichnet / beeindruckend
- wichtig =bedeutend / relevant / wesentlich
- sehr wichtig = äußerst wichtig / von großer Bedeutung / entscheidend
- Ich bin beschäftigt =Ich bin momentan stark eingespannt
- Ich habe keine Zeit =Ich habe derzeit leider keine Zeit zur Verfügung
- Ich bin müde =Ich bin ziemlich erschöpft
- Ich bin glücklich =Ich bin sehr zufrieden / überglücklich
- Das ist schlecht =Das ist problematisch / ungünstig
- Ich denke, das ist gut =Meiner Meinung nach ist das sinnvoll / eine gute Lösung
- Ich finde das gut =Ich halte das für sinnvoll / empfehlenswert
- Das ist ein Problem =Das stellt eine Herausforderung dar
- Es ist schwer =Es ist ziemlich anspruchsvoll / herausfordernd
- Ich lerne Deutsch =Ich beschäftige mich intensiv mit der deutschen Sprache
- Das ist interessant =Das ist faszinierend / äußerst interessant
- Das ist langweilig =Das ist eher eintönig / wenig ansprechend
- Ich verstehe das nicht =Ich kann das nicht ganz nachvollziehen
- Ich mag das nicht =Ich bin kein großer Fan davon

But trust me, this is exactly what helps you stand out in exams.
